ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Courtney and I am an aspiring graphic designer currently earning my BA at Messiah University. Throughout my time at Messiah, I have gained a lot of knowledge and skills in many different areas of art that can all relate back to graphic design. A few classes I have taken here are Typography, Graphic Design and Professional Practice, Relief Printmaking, and Painting I. These classes have all helped me gain a greater sense of form, color and cohesiveness that has greatly elevated my art, as well as helping me develop skills such as time management, organization, and attention to detail. I am an extremely hard worker that is continuing to learn and push myself while getting comfortable with softwares such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I enjoy working with others and getting feedback in order to create a good community, while fostering artistic growth. I like to keep my work unique, while also being practical and love any chance I get to continue to develop my skills even further.

DESIGN STATEMENT

I believe all art has meaning and is a good method to communicate our thoughts and ideas to others. This is true for all forms of art, from painting to sculpture, but I find it exceeding in design. Being able to create a design, whether it's a logo, poster, or ad, is creating it’s own language. It’s powerful and in doing so, we are essentially creating an identity. It’s more than just a brand, but it can speak to the origin of this idea, or of what it wants to become. Being a designer is being able to represent the ‘why?’ of an idea. It’s freeing to be able to create work that connects to people while being practical and being able to discover the story behind it. Good design is staying true to itself, while also being understandable.
